The factory NP242 has a 27 spline output shaft that is 1.172" in diameter, this HD SYE kit will convert the output shaft to 32 splines and increase the diameter to 1.375". As we all know more spines typically equates to more strength! Also, the new output shaft will be roughly 3" shorter, meaning you will end up with a longer driveshaft which will aid in reducing the chances of vibrations. The NP242 may be the most versatile T-case ever installed in a Jeep. It has 2WD, full-time 4WD, part-time 4WD, and 4WD low range. The four ranges, with a decent low range of 2.72:1, make it great in all kinds of terrains.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you will be adding the new driveshaft to your order above, you will need to install the SYE first and then call us with the running length measurement so that you get the appropriate length shaft for your application.

This kit is a MUST for taller lifted XJ's, YJ's, ZJ's, WJ's and TJ with a NP242 transfer case to eliminate driveline vibrations coming from the factory rear drive shaft. This kit will eliminate the need to drop your transfer case in order to avoid drive train vibrations that are caused by taller suspension lift kits. The purpose of this kit is to replace the slip yoke portion of the NP242 with a fixed-yoke in order to be able to install a CV style drive shaft assembly. This is the most complete and strongest kit available!

NP 242J SYE Kit.

This is the right way to eliminate the slip yoke. Allows you to run a double cardan joint at the transfer case. Allow for the removal of the rear driveline, without loosing the oil out of the transfer case. A life saver in case of trail damage to the rear driveline.

Very high-quality kit. I didn't want to do a hack and tap typical for a N242J. This was a breeze to install and instantly solved my driveline vibes.
There are just two things that could be better. 1) Better instructions, and 2) more diverse set of snap rings. I had to reuse some of the old ones because the new ones were the wrong size. The big one that holds the planetary gear set in the back was too thick. So keep that in mind and don't destroy them if you don't have to.
I decided to go with just a XJ front drive shaft in the rear. With this setup and my 3.5" lift it's a little on the short side, but good enough for now. I'll be getting a custom one once I have the angles all dialed in and the lift settles.
